What’s Up Wednesday (8-30-17)

What’s Up Wednesday (8-30-17)

We’re almost halfway through the week!  Congratulations … you’re almost back to a normal routine of school days, with frantic “put your shoes on right now!!!!” mornings, busy afternoons filled with activities, and family dinners.

For today’s post I’m just sharing some random and fun things that are going in on in my life.  It’s called:

I’ll do this once a month and each time I’ll answer the following questions:

What's Up Wednesday Questions

I think this will be fun.  Let’s get to it.

1. What We’re Eating This Week …

As I posted on Monday when talking about recovering from the summer, I spent some time pinning crockpot recipes this past weekend.

We tried the first one Monday night and it was delicious.  It was Mix and Match Mama’s Orange Marmalade Chicken Sandwiches.

MixandMatchMama.com

This recipe received four thumbs ups in my home which is quite the difficult feat.  We ate the chicken with Hawaiian buns.  Plus, we threw in some mini carrots and fruit.  We’re trying another crockpot recipe later this week and I’ll try to remember to post a photo of the meal on Instagram.

2.  What I’m Reminiscing About …

My childhood spent in Houston.  Hurricane Harvey absolutely devastated the area and I can’t help looking back on the 5 years I lived there as a child.  I’ve seen videos of nearby neighborhoods with houses that have over 4 feet of standing water in them.  I don’t know about you guys, but I as I write this I’m looking around my house thinking “all of this would be gone – wow.”  I’m so relieved that all of my Houston friends are safe, but there are so many families that lost everything.  And just this morning I saw that now Port Arthur is under water.  The devastation continues.

Here in the Four Points area, you can donate locally at The Oasis.  Per their Facebook page:

Oasis Harvey Donations

Also, if you’re in the Four Points area and have donations ready today, let me know and I will come pick them up for you to drop off at the Oasis.

If you’re not in the Four Points area, you can also donate in several ways.  MixandMatchMama.com listed tons of ways on her website.  She mentioned that diapers are not provided by disaster relief agencies and the Texas Diaper Bank is in serious need.  You can donate money here or you can send diapers (Amazon always has great prices) to this address:  5415 Bandera Road, Suite 504, San Antonio, Texas 78238.

3.  What I’m Loving …

STRUCTURE!  We’ve only been back to school a couple days, but let me tell you … I’m now GETTING THINGS DONE!  It’s ah-mazing.  I got my workout in at my preferred time, dinner’s been ready on time, my house is pretty clean, and right now both kids are in my house playing quietly.  Seriously.  We needed the school year to start back up badly!

4.  What We’ve Been Up To …

We spent last week relaxing at my in-laws’ cabin in beautiful British Columbia.

The kids, my husband, and I really needed the change of scenery and pace.  My father-in-law had the genius idea of hiding some “dinosaur bones” (poor VERY OLD dead deer) around the property.

Foster was in heaven searching for dinosaur bones all week.

We went on tons of hikes around the cabin, but didn’t have much else planned.

Usually we do day-long hikes around the area and last year we even did a rafting adventure, but this year the entire province of British Columbia is dealing with terrible fires.  You aren’t allowed to drive up into the big mountains for the hikes, and that made this trip low-key.  Perfect!

On our way back to the airport we stopped and saw the salmon ladders.  How cool is this?

Before the salmon die they make it up stream to lay their eggs.  At this point they are a bright red.  So pretty!

Right now I’m searching for our “nice” camera with all of the awesome photos, but can’t find it.  (Shhhh … don’t tell Jarrod).  It’s here, but I just can’t locate it right away.  😉    I’ll try to talk more about our trip in the next week.  We love B.C. and you should definitely look into an outdoorsy vacation there!

5.  What I’m Dreading …

I honestly cannot think of a single thing I’m actually dreading.  If I’m stretching the word “dread” to be somewhat like “not exactly excited” I guess I can say redoing the flower beds once the weather gets cooler.  But, I’m actually kind of looking forward to picking everything out.  I’m just “not exactly excited” about the actual work to be done digging in the dirt.  LOL.

6.  What I’m Working On …

Getting back in shape (and hopefully losing a few pounds along the way).  I keep finding new reasons for why it’s not a good time to really get dedicated to watching what I eat again.  But, it’s time.   This week I’m figuring out my plan of attack … wish me luck!

7.  What I’m Excited About …

Fall weather.  Pumpkin spice lattes.  Bringing down the boxes of fall decorations out of the attic.  Foster’s first season of soccer.  Parker’s first season of Sportball.  The CASA Superhero Run.  The fall trip my husband and I are planning … for just the two of us.  Football season.  The list could go on and on …

8.  What I’m Watching/ Reading …

Okay, don’t judge.  I might have just selected Twilight on Netflix when I sat down to work a bit on this blog during Parker’s nap time.

Twilight Movie Poster

Wow, that movie is so bad.  I finally turned it off at the spider monkey quote.  I don’t get it.  I loved the books.  The actors are great in other films.  Such a shame.

On the other hand, I’m currently reading Sophie Kinsella’s My (Not So) Perfect Life.

I can’t wait to share my thoughts about it during next month’s Four Points Mom & Books post.  Here’s my latest post in case you missed it.

9.  What I’m Listening To …

Last night my husband stumbled upon the BEST 90s music playlist on Spotify.  It was incredible!  So, now I’ve got (what I think might be) the greatest decade of music in my head.  Okay, I might be biased.  But, No Doubt’s Don’t Speak came on and I nearly burst into tears out of joy.  I mean.  Incredible.  And I can’t help but think of my middle school self and how I wish I could go back and tell her it’s not that big of a deal that John didn’t ask her to dance with her at that party … sigh.

10.  What I’m Wearing …

If I’m honest, usually I’m in workout clothes about half the day.  But, after having to order a size down (yeah, that doesn’t happen often for me), my new favorite jeans came in the mail this week and I can’t wait to wear them.

For my strange body type these jeans are awesome.  Yay!

11.  What I’m Doing This Weekend …

A little shopping for Foster’s soccer cleats and shin guards, a little cleaning, and enjoying a date night with my husband.  (Thanks Mom!)

12.  What I’m Looking Forward To Next Month …

Please see #7 above.  That about covers everything.  😉

13.  What Else Is New …

This blog!  Since starting the blog a couple months ago, I’ve really started to get a routine in place and I hope you guys like it.  I welcome feedback and ideas for new content.  Plus, if you do like the site — tell your friends!  You can share my posts on Facebook or even invite your friends to like the Four Points Mom Facebook page.  Thank you in advance.

And, of course, sign up for the Four Points Mom Weekly Wrap-up Email that shows up in your inbox every Tuesday morning.  This way you’ll be able to quickly review snippets from last week’s posts to see if you missed one.

Wow, that was a long post.  But the randomness was kinda fun (for me at least).  Have a great day everyone!
