Who is Amber Gordon?

Amber Gordon

Amber Gordon is the creative force behind Art Barn ATX.  Amber has been teaching art for the past fourteen years, and has been the art teacher at Laura Welch Bush Elementary School in Steiner Ranch for the past four years.    When she and her husband bought their home with a two-story converted barn, she began to dream of opening her own studio.  A couple years later (and many hours of hard labor turning the barn into her perfect space), she finally opened the studio in the spring of 2018.

Parents in many of my Facebook groups have been raving about Amber’s work for quite some time.  That’s why the brand new Art Barn ATX Facebook page already has over 500 followers!

Our Art Barn ATX Experience

After a beautiful 15-minute drive, we pulled up to the Art Barn ATX studio.  The kids could not get inside and paint fast enough!

And may I add that the attention to details in and around the studio is absolutely incredible.

Studio Space With Kids

If I imagined my dream art studio, this wouldn’t be far from it.  Amber has left no stone unturned.  Even my (limited) creative juices were flowing just stepping into the space.

Amber planned a drip art project for the kids which was right up their alley!  This meant they got to head to the splatter room.  Wow – what a fun space for kids!

She had everything set up so the kids got right to “work.”

This project was great for both kids.  Can you tell Foster was having a blast?

I could learn alot from Amber’s patience with my kids!

And then the party really got started when Amber pulled out the black light.  😉

Foster and Parker had fun imagining splatter painting the wall with glow in the dark paint … umm, not going to happen this time kids.  Maybe in a few years when you’ll be bathing yourselves.  LOL.  Then I’m sure they’d love a glow in the dark splatter paint party!

When it was time to head out, I had to drag these guys out of the studio.  But, we left inspired to incorporate art more often into our activities at home (and I finally want to tackle some of my home decor projects that I’ve put off so long).

Kids Night Out
Just announced, Art Barn ATX hosts Kids Night Out every second Saturday of the month starting in July.  Kids Night Out is from 6 pm to 10 pm and open to children, ages 6 and up who have completed kindergarten.  They’ll get pizza and leave with an art project.  Plus, if there’s time they’ll watch a movie.  Check out the Art Barn ATX website here to learn more about the night and how to register your kiddos!
There are still a few spots left for the July 14th Kids Night Out!  Click here to sign up your kids today!

Summer Camp
As I mentioned earlier, the Art Barn ATX 2018 Summer Camps are sold out, but they’ll be back next year.  Camps were Monday – Thursdays from 9 am –  3 pm.  Activities included stretched finished painting, printmaking project, and a glazed clay piece.  As you can tell from these photos, the kids had a blast!

Birthday Parties
Art Barn ATX also hosts Splatter Paint Birthday Parties.  Parties include regular paint and glow paint projects.  Kids jump right into art projects and then the party ends with birthday refreshments in the main studio.
Also, it’s really nice that that a full kitchen is available for the party.  Amber really planned ahead and there’s a TV in the main studio with camera footage fo the splatter room.  So, parents can avoid getting messy if they so desire!

Workshops
You can also attend workshops at Art Barn ATX.  Whether you want to get together with friends or just learn something new, the occasional workshops offered by Art Barn ATX look really fun.
