Four Points Mom & Books (2-26-2018)

Good morning friends!

I can’t believe February flew by as quickly as it did.  I looked up this weekend and realized the month’s almost over and I haven’t recapped any of the MANY books I’ve read recently.  So, let’s get to it!

You may recall that last month’s books had me raving about them. Well, I’m happy to let you know that there were a few great ones again this month.  Yay!

Into The Water by Paula Hawkins

I enjoyed Paula Hawkins’ The Girl On The Train so I was excited to read her latest book, Into The Water.  Unfortunately, this was probably my least favorite book this month.  It’s set in a small English town where several women have assumedly killed themselves by jumping into the local river.  However, the question is whether they really do kill themselves or if there is someone (or a group) who is actually killing these women.  There are lots of twists and turns and, in my opinion, an overall letdown.  It starts off exciting, but it began to drag on and there never really was a “WHOA” moment.  So, I don’t recommend it.

Of Mess and Moxie by Jen Hatmaker

So, I jumped to read this book after I reserved my tickets to Jen Hatmaker’s appearance at Riverbend tomorrow night.  She is so funny and honest and I truly love her take on parenting, loving others, and Christianity in general.  If you’ve read Jen’s other books and enjoyed them, you’ll enjoy this one too.  I have to be honest – I still don’t truly understand what moxie is but I’m hoping to get some clarity tomorrow.  🙂

Unbelievable: My Front-Row Seat To the Craziest Campaign in American History by Katy Tur

Okay, no matter your political affiliation, you have to admit that Donald Trump’s campaign for president was crazy.  I’m not very political (and to be honest kinda became anti-political after the last election), so I didn’t know who Katy Tur is before this book popped up as a recommended read for me.  I thought it sounded interesting, and I was not disappointed.  IT IS SO GOOD!  Katy Tur works for NBC and was on the campaign trail with Trump.  She recounts her experience (with a slight liberal twist although she won’t admit it).  But, to hear firsthand about the campaign trail and traveling around the country with Trump was so interesting.  I wholeheartedly recommend this book.  If you’re a huge Trump fan you will likely not like her characterization of Trump, but I still think it will be an interesting read for you nonetheless.

The Secret Life of Violet Grant by Beatriz Williams

I loved this book!  It follows two main characters, one young women living in the 1960s in Manhattan and her aunt living in Europe right before World War II began.  Both characters are strong women who defy the conventional standards of women during their time, and it ended up being such an empowering read.  I enjoyed both characters very much and I loved Beatriz Williams’ writing style.  Read this one friends!

The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

READ THIS BOOK!  I loved it.  There are some twists and turns and I don’t want to say much or else I’ll give away its awesomeness.  Lol.  But, if you read any of the books from this one, read this one.  We’re reading The Wife Between Us for book club right now (which I’ll review next month) and it follows a similar plotline, but The Last Mrs. Parrish puts it to shame.  Plus, Reese Witherspoon chose this book as her December Book of the Month, so you know it’s good.  🙂

That’s it for me this month.  Tell me what you’re reading – I’m always looking for suggestions.  And add your two cents if you’ve read these books.  I’d love to hear what you think too.
