All About Quintessence Plastic Surgery

Conveniently located in the Medical Tower at River Place, Quintessence Plastic Surgery recently moved into their newly-remodeled space within the building.

I hadn’t visited an office within the Medical Tower in about a year so I was shocked when I walked in last month to discover the brand new stylish makeover of the entire building.   Although Quintessence Plastic Surgery has been in the building for a couple years, they recently moved into their new office within the building.  I can’t imagine getting to work in such beautiful offices every day!  Hmmm … maybe I should give my office a makeover.  Okay, okay, I digress.

Quintessence Plastic Surgery offers the widest range of services that I’ve come across locally here in the Four Points area.

Quintessence Services

Quintessence Plastic Surgery is unique compared to many of the other beauty spas nearby because Dr. White is actually a board certified plastic surgeon who can do WAY more than just Botox and filler.  She can also guide you through an entire mommy makeover.  All right here in the neighborhood.  So convenient!  Here’s a detailed list of the many, many services Quintessence Plastic Surgery provides.

All About Dr. Aisha White

Dr. Aisha White is a board certified plastic surgeon who has been published several times in various scientific journals related to reconstructive plastic surgery. She lives here locally in the Four Points area, but she completed her training at many prestigious academic centers.  She went to the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University for medical school, completed a masters of business administration (MBA) at The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, spent time in Brooklyn during her internship and residency in Plastic Surgery at SUNY Health Center, and finished her residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Wow – that’s an impressive decade of education!  And I thought undergrad at UT and law school at SMU took forever … 🙂

Also, I want to add a quick side note.  Not all plastic surgeons are board certified and that’s important to keep in mind.  To become board certified, a physician must not only pass a written examination, but he or she must also pass an oral examination which includes a careful review of the physician’s case log and written recommendations from other Board Certified Plastic Surgeons.  This means that a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon must meet academic qualifications as well as ethics and professionalism standards.  I just wanted to throw this information out there – it’s important to keep in mind especially since many plastic surgeons are not board certified.

What is a SkinMedica® Professional Peel?

I was fortunate to be invited by Dr. Aisha White and her team at Quintessence Plastic Surgery to come in for a visit and undergo a SkinMedica® Professional Peel.  I’ve had chemical peels before and I love the results.  I was excited to try this new type of peel and tell you all about it.

A SkinMedica® chemical peel accelerates skin exfoliation, helping your complexion to appear more uniform and renewed.  You’re generally recommended to do a series of peels (between 3 and 6).  The goal is to address your mild, moderate, or severe skin imperfections to help reveal a more youthful, radiant appearance.

There are three types of SkinMedica® chemical peels, and Dr. White and Heather Smith, R.N. guided me in selecting the right one for my skin needs. Here’s a chart that compares the three types of SkinMedica® chemical peels.

We all agreed that the Vitalize Peel®  was the best choice for my sun spots, melasma, and oh-so-fun fine lines and wrinkles.  As you can see in the above chart, this peel is designed for mild to moderate skin imperfections and has minimal downtime.  Considering my life with two littles, minimal downtime is all I have time for!

I went into the office on a Monday to receive the treatment.  Heather and Dr. White explained the procedure which actually took very little time and I was out in no time.  Although I’ve had chemical peels before, I was surprised to learn that this peel actually stays on your face all day.  I was instructed to go home and wash it off before I went to bed that night (and of course minimizing my time in the sun in the meantime).

Did it hurt?  Umm, well, it did sting quite a bit for about 5 minutes (if that long).  At first I was nervous, especially considering I just heard that it would be on my face all day.  Thankfully, as Heather told me, the stinging went away very quickly and my skin just felt a bit tight the rest of the day.  It reminded me of the feeling when you’ve been in the sun a bit too long and expect a sunburn the following day.

What did my skin look like the day of the procedure?  That evening my skin had a bit of an orange tint to it.  It reminded me of when I used to spray tan.  LOL.  The next two days my face actually looked incredible and I was hoping that maybe I didn’t need to peel to see the effects …

Did I peel?  Yes, but not for several days.  My skin gradually started peeling about 4 days later.  It reminded me of when my nose used to peel as a kiddo in the summer (before I lathered sunscreen all over myself anytime I stepped outside).   My whole face didn’t peel all at once, but I had a few little patches that peeled at a time.  They gave me several of the SkinMedica sunscreens that I loved.  I wore the Essential Defense Mineral Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 35 every day for about a week.  It was great!  After applying it in the morning, you could barely tell that my skin was flaky at all.  I will say that I tried to put on a BB cream one day and that was a mistake.  My advice is to stick with sunscreen until you’re finished peeling.

Did I see any results?  I loved my results!  About two weeks later my skin looked incredible and all signs of peeling were gone.  I had several people comment on my skin, saying that it looked like I was glowing and even how lucky I am to have great skin.

Ha!  A month beforehand I looked worn-out and tired.  My skin seemed dull.  I recommend this peel for anyone who wants to refresh their skin.  And sit back to wait for the compliments and incredible results.

The Four Points Mom Q & A with Dr. Aisha White

I knew you all would love to hear from Dr. White herself, so I sent over some questions my friends and I had for her.

  • What questions do you wish patients asked when they come in for a consultation?  I love for patients to ask questions.  I wish that patients wouldn’t be shy about asking.  It’s so important to me that patients leave both informed and comfortable after a consultation.  Sometimes, the procedure a patient requests isn’t going to give her/ him the result that she/he desires.  It’s through asking (and answering) lots of questions that I can get the best understanding of the patient’s goals and work with her/ him on a plan to help achieve those goals.

  • Summer is here!  Which treatments are your most popular during the summer?  We see lots of different procedures during the summer.  Many people use the downtime from work or school to have a variety of procedures done.  we also see a rush of patients in the late spring/ early summer having breast augmentation, breast reduction, liposuction, and tummy tucks to get their bodies ready for swimsuit season.

  • Do you have a favorite treatment?  I am a huge fan of chemical peels.  I have personally found them to be extremely helpful in evening out my skin and improving the texture.

  • What makes you and Quintessence Plastic Surgery different from other businesses in the area providing similar services?   We’re not a pushy plastic surgery practice.  We are here to educate, support, and empower our patients’ plastic surgery journeys.  We believe strongly in partnering with our patients to provide high quality care and provide them with the results they desire.

  • Mommy Makeovers are all the rage right now.  What exactly is a Mommy Makeover? A Mommy Makeover is a combination of an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) with a breast rejuvenation procedure (breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction).  Mommy Makeovers are great to help correct some of the changes that may occur to a woman’s body after pregnancy – such as deflated or droopy breasts, lax abdominal wall muscles, and loose abdominal wall skin.

Giveaway from Quintessence Plastic Surgery

Quintessence Plastic Surgery is offering one of my  readers ONE FREE SYRINGE OF JUVEDERM ULTRA FILLER FOR LIP AUGMENTATION.  What?!?  This is a $550 value you guys!  Or, you can have $200 towards a service of your choice if you’d prefer.  It’s up to the winner to make that choice!

So what exactly is Juvederm Ultra Filler for Lip Augmentation?  Juvederm Ultra is a non-toxic substance that is injected under the skin at various depths to volumize and define lips for a full and lifted appearance.  Juvederm Ultra is made with hyaluronic acid gel to absorb water, deliver nutrients and act as a cushioning agent.  When injected into your skin, it acts like a sponge, filling and plumping the lip area.

Juvederm Ultra treatments are fast and relatively painless.  Once a topical anesthetic is applied and starts to take effect, the dermal filler is injected into the target area using a tiny needle.  The entire procedure takes 10 to 30 minutes, with no downtime.  Temporary visible side effects may include redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising at the injection site.
