Friday Favorites with Four Points Mom (10-20-2017)

Happy Friday!  As always, I’m linking up again with Andrea for Friday Favorites.

Momming in Circles

For whatever reason, this week I’ve really laughed at myself a few times thinking that my “mom life” is kinda crazy.  I’ve kinda felt like this actually.

I’m having fun and then fall flat on my face.  Ha.  Do you ever have these weeks?

For example, sometimes I feel like I’m running in circles checking off these super important tasks.  Then, I have a wake up call realizing that “super important task” was totally elective and NOT important and I ended up completely overlooking or putting off to the absolute last minute something that actually was important.  Or I find myself stressing about something one of my kids are going through, spending hours talking to friends and researching online, only to realize a day later that I should just chill out.

That was me this week.  But, at the same time I’m starting to recognize when I’m doing this earlier than I used to and give myself a wake-up call.  I’ll take that as a success.  🙂

Making Memories

This past week we didn’t really have anything super special going on … no birthdays or special events … but we stayed busy.  The weekend was all about soccer (with our normal Saturday 8 am game and a Sunday make-up game).

Soccer Snacks

The snacks are this team’s favorite part of the game.  After the Sunday game, my mom and I enjoyed a really healthy (insert sarcasm here) lunch with the kiddos at Lucy’s Fried Chicken.

If you haven’t been to Lucy’s the food truly is delicious and the kids will love the play area.  The only downside is that there are limited seating options where you can see the play area, especially if it’s a bit too cool to sit outside like it was on Sunday when we went.  So, we had to play before sitting down and then afterwards, dealing with the “I want to play on the playground” comments all through lunch.  But, as you see  in the photo, there are a bunch of tables outside you can sit at if you’re wanting to be outside.

If you’re looking for other restaurants with play areas, don’t forget to check out my Austin Restaurants With Playgrounds resource.

My husband worked all weekend but when he got off work on Sunday afternoon the sun was out and he suggested we take the boat to dinner.  Two restaurants in one day means no cooking.  Alright!  We drove the boat down to Abel’s On The Lake and promised the kids a hot chocolate from Mozart’s afterwards.  They were super excited!

And, I had to take a photo of the new Crocs their aunt bought them last week.  I have a love-hate relationship with Crocs.  Although I know they’re not the trendiest shoes, they are just so practical for kids!  My kids wear these all summer long and even throughout the rest of the year, especially if we’re just running somewhere really quickly like the store or gym.  Check out some of the new styles for your kiddos here!

On Tuesday, my husband was off and surprised Foster by picking him up from school and spending the afternoon with him.  Foster was in heaven!  Mini golf at Peter Pan’s Mini Golf was a huge hit!

And we were dying laughing at this photo later.  Can you figure out why?  LOL.

Traveling to San Francisco with Kids

Another favorite from the week is we randomly booked a trip to San Francisco next month.

SF

With kids.  WHAT?!?  We found super cheap airfare and jumped on it.  We spent a couple days on cloud nine, so proud of our spontaneity and telling the kids about how much fun we’ll have in the city and seeing the redwoods.  Then last night we started looking for a hotel.

The only “hotels” in the city area under $400 a night are literally motels with the room door leading out to a parking lot (in a shady area of town).  We had NO IDEA it would be so expensive!  I’ve been to San Francisco several times and I had an idea that we’d be paying about $300 a night for a decent hotel in the city, but most are over $500 for a single room.  Crazy!

Let me know if you have suggestions for us or an idea to get a discounted place to stay downtown.  Like I said, I’ve been to San Francisco probably 10 times over the past decade so I’m excited to check out our favorite spots with the kiddos and write a blog post about it.  After this week’s post with recommendations for a Seattle trip with kids, I know a San Francisco post would also be fun.  So, help a girl out!

If we can’t find a place in the city, we’ll just make it more of an outdoorsy trip and spend time in the greater bay area (looking at the redwoods, hiking, visiting Santa Cruz, Monterey, etc.).

Date Night with Friends

On Wednesday, a group of us planned a fun couples night out at Siena Ristorante Toscana.  It was so much fun!  I love a good girls night out, but going out with the hubby and our friends is even better.  This photo gives you an idea of how the night went …

🙂

We thought that was the only photo we got, but I was happy to find out later that I did actually have a better one.  Yay.  (Sorry Kendra – you left too early to get in on the photo fun.) Of course the guys passed on the photo opp.

Alright everyone, have a fabulous day!  We’re scheduled to have family photos this evening so fingers crossed the sun pops out beautifully for us … and my kiddos are manageable … and my husband shows up.  LOL.  Anybody else feel like getting photos taken is a huge undertaking?
