Friday Favorites with Four Points Mom (7-21-2017)

Friday Favorites with Four Points Mom (7-21-2017)

I had so much fun with last week’s Friday Favorites that I think I’m going to try to do this weekly.  It’s a fun way to gather some articles I found online and share them with you and highlight any exciting happenings on the site for the week.  Thanks for stopping by and enjoy!

#1 The Micromanaging Mom Dilemma

This week’s Scary Mommy post about micromanaging moms being the toughest enemy for dads really hit home for me.  I’m often so worried about making sure my husband does things my way, but that isn’t always the best way for my kids.

Plus, it probably annoys the heck out of him.  Several of you also liked the article on my Facebook feed, but if you haven’t checked it out yet, I encourage you to do so.

#2 How-To Guide for Hiring a Sitter

How To Hire a Babysitter

I heard from a lot of friends and readers about Wednesday’s post which contained tips for hiring babysitters and nannies.  I’m so happy you guys liked the article and found the tips helpful.  I also developed a Free Printable with the 7 Tips For Hiring a Babysitter or Nanny.  Print this off and keep it nearby for the next time you are looking for a sitter.

Initially, I didn’t know whether to include my SafeMom posts on the site, but I’m so happy I did and that my ten years of professional experience in keeping children safe can be used by other moms in my community.  Again, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions and to learn a little more about me and my professional life read My Story.

#3 Top Spots in Austin for Dinosaur-Lovers

This week Free Fun in Austin posted an article rounding up some of the top spots in Austin for dinosaur-lovers.  I’ve mentioned before that Foster is obsessed with dinosaurs, so we’ve been to a few of the places mentioned in the article already.

For example, we’ve checked out Champion Park’s Dino Play Area at Brushy Creek Trail.  But, there were a couple spots that I’ve now added to our must-see list.  For example, I hadn’t heard of the Hartman Prehistoric Garden within Zilker Botanical Gardens.  The habitat they’ve recreated in the garden includes a life-sized replica of a Ornithomimus with actual casts of those tracks found by paleontologists at this actual site years ago.  Pretty cool!

#4 Fitness Fanaticism

It’s mid-summer and I am so over running outside.  My husband typically works out in the morning so unfortunately I can’t catch super early morning workouts.  Yeah, I’m sticking with blaming him as my reason that 6 am workouts don’t work for me.  😉  I digress … Anyways, I usually like to run a couple times a week outside, but that just isn’t happening consistently in the one hundred degree weather anymore.  So, I reached out to some of my Facebook friends for local recommendations.  I received so many recommendations that I’m going to do some research and add a Four Points Resource on the topic soon.  I’ll let you know when it’s ready, and I can’t wait to try out some new indoor air-conditioned spots out and share them with you soon!  In the meantime, you should check out some of my other resources, like the Austin Restaurants with Playgrounds Page or the Austin Indoor Activities Page.

#5 Party at the Potty

Okay, wish me luck.  We are officially potty-training Parker this weekend.

This was not a smooth process with Foster, so any prayers and positive thoughts are much-appreciated.  Let the bribery begin!

I am confident enough to acknowledge one of my greatest weaknesses is a lack of patience.  I think it’s that only child thing (yeah, I pretty much ran the show growing up and I struggle with not being in control sometimes).  😉  As you can imagine, potty-training takes a lot of patience so send me your tips … PLEASE!

Have a great weekend everybody!
