Kicking Summer Off at Steiner Ranch’s Towne Square Park

Kicking Summer Off at Steiner Ranch’s Towne Square Park

Does the question “Want to go to the playground?” get you as excited as Parker?

Or, do you feign excitement like Foster does in the same photo?

To be honest, I’m usually feeling like Foster.  But, I do get a little excited about scoping out new playgrounds that aren’t too far of a drive from the house.  That’s what I’ll be doing with my regular Playgrounds with Four Points Mom posts.  Check back regularly and I’ll be posting about playgrounds in the Four Points area (or not too far from Four Points), giving my two cents about them.  I’ll hopefully find some that will encourage you to pack up the car, toys, snacks, water bottles, … (oh my lord it’s exhausting just writing all of this).  So check back regularly for hidden gems just around the corner.

First up is Towne Square Park in Steiner Ranch.

Towne Square Park

Located at 12550 Country Trail, this playground is next to a community pool, tennis courts, and a large green field with plenty of area to get the wriggles out.  The playground was a nice change of pace for the kids who enjoyed the bridge, fireman’s pole, tube slide, and rolling cylinder.

Plus, it has two swings and two infant swings.  We were there around 10 am and there was plenty of parking at that time.  I imagine parking will get a bit more complicated during the summer once the pool opens up, but I’m sure it won’t be too bad.

The playground is a bit worn (chipped paint in several places) but still nice.  We just put in our own playscape at home, so I know recommended depth of pebbles is about 6 inches.  There were areas (near the bottom of the slide for example) where the pebbles were thin enough to see the black tarp underneath.  To be clear, though, this is me being nitpicky.  The kids had a blast and didn’t care about a little chipped paint or missing pebbles. To wrap it up …

Pros: Rolling cylinder (I’ve never seen one of these before and Foster loved it), bridge, and beautiful shaded grounds

Cons: Thin level of pebbles (yes, not that big of a deal but I’m looking for cons) and areas of chipped paint

Coming back?  Umm, maybe?  I don’t know if we’d head back to visit the playground as a trip itself, but it is right down the street from Cups and Cones so we might be back with ice cream next time!
