Weekly Adventure with the Round Rock Express

Weekly Adventure with the Round Rock Express

Although my goal in starting the Four Points Mom website is to tailor content to the Four Points Area of Austin, once a month I’ll go “Out of Bounds” and post about a fun activity, event, or business that is outside of the greater Four Points Area.  I know we all occasionally head “Out of Bounds” and I want to highlight fun activities that we’ve enjoyed and hopefully you can too.

On Friday night, we braved the long haul to Round Rock and headed “Out of Bounds” for a family fun night at the Round Rock Express Game.

We lucked out and the traffic was really light for us despite leaving Four Points in the middle of rush hour traffic.  (The drive took us about 50 minutes.)  This was our first time attending a game, so we didn’t know what to expect.  The night was a huge success for all, and definitely worth going “Out of Bounds.”

We had great seats right behind the home team dugout.  We arrived about a half-hour before the game started.  There were tons of activities going on and the team’s mascot was running around being silly.

We even scored a ball from one of the nice Express players.  But, my four-year-old and two-year-old could happily remain in a small, designated area for so long.  By the end of the first inning, we left Jarrod (who enjoyed some quiet time to watch the game) and headed to the outfield area’s Fun Zone to play and eat.  Thankfully, my mom was there to help me with the kids.  Click here to see the many available options for food and treats.  I was amazed at the selection!  The kids wanted hot dogs and my mom and I indulged in chicken tenders from Chicken Express (right next to the Fun Zone).

The Fun Zone was wonderful!

It contains a playground, sport court, and bounce house that kids can enjoy at no additional cost.  Plus, additional activities are offered for small fees: Rock wall ($2), Speed Pitch ($1), Bungee Bounce ($5), and Unlimited Play on all activities ($10).  This area was very crowded and we did have to wait about 20 minutes for the Bungee Bounce and 10 minutes for the bounce house. But, the look on Foster’s face during his few minutes doing the Bungee Bounce was worth it!

We spent the last few innings in the lawn seating area in the outfield.  When we come back, we’ll buy tickets here.  It’s full of families with young children so we weren’t stressed that ours were running around or being loud.  That’s what all the kids were doing!

After the game, there was a surprisingly great fireworks show.  It was accompanied by fun Beach Boys songs and in the lawn area we were super close (I don’t think I’ve ever been so close to a fireworks show).  By the end of the fireworks show it was about 10 o’clock which was VERY late for my kiddos and me, to be honest.  But, we all had a really good time and I recommend it if you’re heading “Out of Bounds” with your family.

Since this was our first time at a Round Rock Express game, I’d love to hear your experiences and tips.  Anything you can recommend we try out next time?  Also, check out this website to learn about the various promotional nights during the season.  For example, there’s a princess night and a superhero night that would make it even more fun for your kiddos!
